24 August 2026 - YBhg. Dato' Ir.Ts. Haji Masri bin Baharuddin, Datuk Bandar Majlis Bandaraya Seremban (MBS) attended the Program of Granting Incentive Awards for Abandoned Dogs 2026 at the premises of Dewan Majlis Bandaraya Seremban (Nilai Branch). This program is one of the additional efforts in handling the issue of abandoned dogs and helping to control the population of dogs for the safety, cleanliness, and well-being of the community. Through the implementation of this program, a total of 8 abandoned dogs handed over voluntarily by the public to MBS have been handed over to two (2) NGOs, namely FURRYKIDS SAFE HAVEN and NS HAPPY PAWS, for the adoption and lifelong management process. Each dog handed over is also provided with a microchip by MBS for identification and record-keeping purposes. For your information, this program is one of the various approaches implemented by MBS in handling the issue of abandoned dogs, including enforcement of dog licensing, regular rescue operations, and grant programs up to RM200.00 for each dog owner who has surrendered and licensed their pet dog, as well as cooperation with the Veterinary Services Department (DVS) and related agencies. Therefore, to ensure that the program is carried out in a controlled manner and not misused, MBS also sets eligibility criteria, including dogs that have owners, licenses, identification marks, or proof of ownership, to prevent unauthorized breeding or dog maintenance activities if there are individuals who surrender dogs repeatedly, thus helping to prevent the "Cobra Effect" in the implementation of the program. MBS would like to express its appreciation to the Royal Malaysia Police, JPVNS, NGOs, the community, and the public for their cooperation and support in implementing this program. The continuous cooperation of all parties is crucial to ensure that the issue of stray dogs can be handled in a dignified, effective, and sustainable manner.
